CHESTER: Lecture on Medieval Queenship: Ideal and Reality - contrary to popular perceptions, the life of a medieval queen was not easy. Usually selected as a marriage partnjer for political and diplomatic reasons, her role was heavily prescribed by contemporary custom and practice. This lecture will explore contemporary expectations of queenship and consider some examples of both successful and unsuccessful queens. It will be given by Diana Dunn of the University of Chester at the Grosvenor Museum Lecture Theatre from 1-2pm.
