JAZZ lovers can look forward to a treat when the award-winning double header of Alan Barnes and Bruce Adams perform a celebrity concert at Oriel House Hotel in St Asaph on Thursday, July 9.
Throughout the 1990s, Bruce, a be-bop trumpeter, and Alan, a multi-instrumentalist, co-led the renowned Bruce Adams/Alan Barnes Quintet, recording the acclaimed CD’s Sidestepping and Let’s Face the Music.
A five-times winner of the alto sax and clarinet sections at the British Jazz Awards, Alan Barnes has also won the event’s baritone sax section three times.
He has a string of recordings as leader, with pianists Brian Lemon on the Zephyr label and Dave Newton on Concord Jazz, and with Kenny Baker, Bob Wilber, Stan Tracey, the Tina May Trio and Spike Robinson’s Tenor Madness.
Bruce Adams won Best Trumpet in the British Jazz Awards 2000/1, and is a regular guest star, playing with many well known bands such as Kenny Baker’s Dozen, Peter York’s Tribute to Gene Krupa and the Scottish Radio Orchestra.
