LEADING Ellesmere Port healthcare technology firm MSoft has helped hospitals in Gloucestershire boost their eco credentials and save money by going virtual.
MSoft has completed the upgrade of IT at the Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal, part of the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust has switched from having a number of servers to a virtual one, giving significant space back and saving money on electricity normally required to power multiple machines.
The trust has used MSoft’s web-based electronic blood tracking and bedside management technology for a number of years.
MSoft’s electronic blood tracking system BloodHound controls access to and from all blood fridges, while the bedside management system allows each bar-coded blood unit to be matched with the patient’s bar-coded wristband in a matter of seconds.
The systems provide further enhanced security and safety by ensuring that only approved staff are allowed to access blood. The firm’s blood tracking solution provides positive identification of users and patients and in depth auditing of all bloods across each and every stage of the tranfusion process – to help get the right blood into the right patient.
By moving to virtualisation, the Gloucestershire hospitals are able to confirm the receipt of blood on to ward using the web interface, whereas previously the only way of doing this was by using handheld devices.
Matt McAlister, managing director of Cheshire based MSoft, said: “The successful upgrade in Gloucestershire is in line with the Government’s commitment to rolling out a programme of virtualisation.
“Gloucestershire and other trusts which move towards virtualisation will achieve a number of significant objectives including becoming more efficient, greener and, most importantly of all, saving considerable sums of money.
“Very few companies in our sector are able to deliver virtualisation to clients, but it is a key part of our client strategy. Continually looking to enhance our clients’ technology is central to our desire to build long term relationships.”
The successful upgrade in Gloucestershire follows a number of successful client wins for MSoft. The company, which is based in Ellesmere Port, has signed deals with the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to deliver its blood-tracking technology.
