Ellesmere Port company has recycled its three millionth car tyre

AN ECO-FRIENDLY company has recycled its three millionth tyre – enough to stretch from its base in Ellesmere Port to Barcelona.

DUNweedin’, based at Canal Side, near Oil Sites Road, passed the landmark in just five years, playing a big part in solving the problems associated with the millions of car tyres discarded by motorists in Britain every year.

Director Graham Glassbrook said: “It’s a great landmark to reach, but we have no intention of stopping here. Stretched out the tyres would cover more than 1,000 miles of road, which shows we are having a major impact in dealing with the problem.”

DUNweedin’ uses tyres to create safety mats and chippings that can be used on children’s playgrounds, as well as a series of popular garden products.

The company is keen to encourage people to use recycled products where possible.

Mr Glassbrook added: “By promoting the use of sustainable products on a day-to-day basis we can have a really positive effect on the environment. Car tyres don’t decompose and cannot be sent to landfill so disposing of them is a real problem.

“The more people understand how difficult it is to dispose of tyres, the more they will realise that the work we do is vital.”
