Arson investigation after fire at former pub
MORE than 30 firefighters tackled a fire at a disused pub following a suspected arson attack.
A total of six fire engines plus the hydraulic platform were sent to the former Old Rivacre pub in Netherpool Road, Ellesmere Port about 7.30pm on Monday.
The fire is believed to have started on the first floor from where a large amount of smoke was issuing when crews arrived.
Shortly afterwards the blaze broke through the roof.
Fire crews used two hosereels and two main jets to extinguish the blaze.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus made a search of the building and checked for hotspots after bringing the blaze under control. There was nobody inside.
It is believed the former pub, which is the middle of an industrial area, suffered extensive damage.
A fire brigade spokesman confirmed the blaze was being “treated as suspicious” but was still under investigation.
The pub is understood to have been closed for six-12 months.
Fire crews from Ellesmere Port, Bromborough, Chester, Frodsham, Runcorn and Northwich were involved in dealing with the incident, which was completed about midnight.
